We Contractors
Whether you are new or experienced to the Umbrella Market, rest assured our clear and honest Employment Services will provide true value and peace of mind.
Rates
It is vital that things are explained clearly and correctly for anyone new to the Umbrella market. When you agree a rate with your agency, this is not your ‘gross pay’ but what is referred to as an ‘Uplifted Rate’ or ‘Agency Rate’. The rate quoted to you by your agency has been uplifted or increased above what you would get paid normally, for example if you was paid directly from the agency. This increase should always include the employment costs that must be paid across to HMRC, which may include Employers National Insurance, Apprenticeship Levy, Employer Pension Contributions and the umbrella margin. After these deductions are made, your total payment is now left which will be then subject to your own personal taxes, pension contributions etc. We must stress that all rates should be uplifted when you are paid through us to ensure you are not worse off after the employment costs and our margin our deducted.
Holiday Pay
Holiday pay is factored into your agreed uplifted rate with your agency (unless specifically stated otherwise). There are two methods of holiday pay available, ‘rolled-up’ which means it is paid out at the same time as your normal payment, or as ‘retained’ which means this portion will be held back and accrues for you to request. Note that ‘rolled-up’ holiday is the default setting and this will be used unless requested otherwise.
Umbrella margin
Every umbrella company will deduct a ‘margin’ for their services. Our is capped at a maximum of £15 per week although this is often less. Some umbrella companies may advertise a lower margin but have hidden additional deductions that will have a negative impact on your take home pay. We advise you always request a full illustration of pay from an umbrella company to ensure you have a complete breakdown of pay and deductions.
Confused?
We understand that using an Umbrella Company for the first time can be confusing, which is why it’s so important that things are fully explained at the point of first contact. We will always aim to explain things honestly and clearly to hopefully remove any confusing from the start.
If you have any questions or would like to request a pay illustration, then please email us (include rates and hours/days worked per week) to info@wepay.uk.com.
